Frostrail Guide

System requirements

Quick answer

Frostrail needs Windows 10 64-bit, an i7-6700K or Ryzen 5 5500, 16 GB of RAM, an RTX 3060 or RX 5600 XT and 25 GB of space. Recommended is 32 GB of RAM with an RTX 4060 or RX 7600.

Frostrail's published minimum is an Intel i7-6700K or Ryzen 5 5500, 16 GB of RAM and a GeForce RTX 3060 or Radeon RX 5600 XT, with 25 GB of storage on Windows 10 64-bit. The recommended build asks for 32 GB of RAM and an RTX 4060 or RX 7600. Those are the numbers on the Steam store page as of 20 October 2026, and they apply to the demo as well as the full game.

What the requirements tell you

  • Any RTX-class card is the floor. A GTX 1060 or 1650 will not meet the published minimum. If you are on older hardware, the demo is the honest test.
  • 16 GB is the minimum, 32 GB is preferred. That is a meaningful gap, and it is the spec most likely to cause stutter rather than low frame rate.
  • 25 GB is a normal install size for a UE5 game, and it is the same figure for the demo — the demo is a slice of the same asset base rather than a stripped build.
  • Windows only. Linux is a tentative yes per the developer FAQ but is not listed in the requirements, and macOS is not committed.

If the demo runs badly

The demo is the build the studio wants telemetry from, and it ships with a dedicated bug-report forum on Steam (the closed beta also ran an in-game report button). Before you file anything, the usual four checks are worth doing:

  1. Update the GPU driver. Unreal Engine 5 games are unusually sensitive to older drivers.
  2. Close the browser. 16 GB machines are running the demo at the edge of what the spec allows.
  3. Lower the resolution before lowering everything else. The biggest single gain on a mid-range card.
  4. Verify the install. Steam's file verification catches the corrupted-shader-cache class of crash.

Frostrail's own FAQ and the demo's Steam forums are where the studio is actually reading reports during Next Fest, so a specific report ("RTX 3060, 1080p, drops to 22 fps in the second area") is worth more than "runs bad".
